Prostatectomy :
Prostatectomy is surgery intended to remove part of or the whole prostate gland, often by a technique to manage prostate cancer or benign prostatic hyperplasia. It can be performed with several approaches like open surgery, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted methods. All of these require preliminary examination and evaluation including imaging tests and biopsy of the patient. During the surgery, the surgeon may remove other tissues besides the prostate based on its severity. Patients are most likely to suffer from some side effects following the surgery, such as urinary incontinence or erectile dysfunction, though most of them are reversible with time. Prostatectomy could be effective in controlling or curing problems resulting from the prostate but only after a discussion on some possible risks with a healthcare provider.
