Peripheral Angioplasty :
Peripheral angioplasty refers to a minimally invasive procedure that is indicated to create more space inside peripheral arteries, as it helps to let blood flow more easily. The main function of peripheral arteries is to carry blood away from the heart to the extremities, such as the arms and legs. Peripheral angioplasty is recommended to treat peripheral artery disease. Peripheral angioplasty is conducted using a medical balloon to move the plaque out of the way and off to the side of the artery wall and then a stent is placed in the artery. Stenting aids in keeping the peripheral artery open and also prevents from closing again. The side effects of this procedure include a repeat blockage in the absence of a stent in the artery, abnormal heartbeats, allergic reaction to the contrast dye, pain and infection at the site where the catheter goes inside, anesthetic complications, blood clots, heart attack, low blood pressure, kidney or blood vessel damage and stroke.
