Penile Cancer :
Penile cancer is a condition in which abnormal cells grow rapidly on the penis. The condition affects the tube-shaped reproductive organ in males. The tumour or growth associated with this cancer can develop anywhere on the penis. The growth most commonly develops on the head of the penis or on the foreskin.
Besides causing a lump on the penis, penile cancer can also cause symptoms like rashes, foul-smelling discharge and swelling in the penis. The diagnosis of penile cancer begins with a physical exam and involves a number of tests including PET scan, an ultrasound, and a tissue biopsy. The treatment of penile cancer depends on the size of the tumour and the stage of the cancer. The treatment is usually performed by a team of specialists including urologists, dermatologists and oncologists. If the cancer is detected in its early stages, then its treatment may involve procedures such as cryotherapy, laser ablation and circumcision. In the late stages of the condition, procedures like penectomy may be required.
