Overactive Bladder :
Overactive bladder (OAB) is defined as a combination of multiple symptoms, which will lead to frequent urination and uncontrollable urgency. Overactive bladder will be commonly observed in individuals who are more than 65 years of age, in men and in women at the age of 45 years. An overactive bladder will cause symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency to urinate, nocturia (waking up in the night to urinate), and uncontrollable urgency to urinate. The overactive bladder will occur due to many reasons, such as nerve damage, abdominal trauma, infection, medications, estrogen deficiency, and being overweight or post-menopause. The diagnosis of overactive bladder will be based on tests such as urinalysis, ultrasound scan, urodynamic testing, CT scan, and cystoscopy. The treatment advised for an overactive bladder will be based on nerve stimulation and medications. There will be certain behaviour changes which will be helpful to control overactive bladder, like monitoring food and water intake, maintaining regular passing of stools, cessation of tobacco, maintaining a healthy body weight, and bladder retraining.
