Nystagmus :
Nystagmus is a condition in which an individual's eyes make repetitive movements rapidly. The movements of the eyes are unintentional and the individual is unable to control them. Nystagmus can be present at birth, develop a few weeks after birth or develop in adulthood. Although nystagmus is not dangerous in and of itself, it can be a sign of brain problems like tumours, head trauma, stroke, toxicity or inflammatory disease.
Besides causing rapid movement patterns in the eyes, nystagmus can cause balance problems, blurry vision, difficulty seeing in the dark and dizziness. An ophthalmologist can diagnose this condition by performing a comprehensive eye exam. The eye specialist may refer the patient to other specialists like neurologists and ENTs. Tests such as an MRI scan, an ear exam, a neurological exam and genetic tests may be required. The treatment of this condition may involve special eyeglasses, medications, vision correction surgery or eye muscle surgery.Found 48 Doctors for Nystagmus Treatment in Vijayawada
