Neuropathy :
Neuropathy, also called peripheral neuropathy, refers to damage to nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. There are various types of neuropathy, including peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, and proximal neuropathy. The neuropathy will be caused due to many reasons, such as diabetes, infections, injury to nerves, nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune diseases, toxic substances, and certain medications. The symptoms which can be observed in neuropathy will be sensory symptoms such as tingling, numbness, sensitivity to touch, loss of balance, and the inability to feel pain or temperature. Motor symptoms include cramping of muscles, loss of coordination, muscle weakness, twitching of muscles. Autonomic symptoms include bladder problems, constipation, diarrhoea, and sexual dysfunction. The neuropathy will be diagnosed based on blood tests, electromyogram, MRI, nerve biopsy, genetic testing, and nerve ultrasound. The treatment advised for neuropathy will be with medications, surgery, physiotherapy.
