Nasal Polyp :
Nasal polyps are described as soft, painless, benign growths observed in the mucosa of the lining of the sinus and nasal passages. The presenting complaints of nasal polyps include rhinorrhea, nasal congestion, headache, loss of taste and smell, nose bleeds, post-nasal drip, snoring, and sinus pressure. Nasal polyps are responsible for causing repeated sinus infections, sleep apnea, frequent asthma attacks, and difficulty in breathing in those who do not suffer from asthma or other sleep disorders. The risk factors associated with the formation of these nasal polyps include chronic sinus infections, allergic rhinitis, asthma, hypersensitivity to certain medications, and cystic fibrosis. The complications of nasal polyps, if left untreated, include bone infection and bone loss, meningitis, and other abscesses. The management of nasal polyps involves various treatment options such as medications like steroid nasal sprays, oral steroids, and surgical procedures like polypectomy, functional endoscopic sinus surgery, and balloon sinuplasty.
