Myocarditis :
Inflammation to the middle layer of the heart muscle, which helps pump the blood by contracting and relaxing, is known as myocarditis. This inflammation of the muscle reduces the ability of the muscle to contract, which results in low pumping of blood out of the heart with each beat. If the myocarditis is severe, it might lead to heart failure. Myocarditis, if left untreated, might lead to scarring or fibrosis, which will lead to long-term problems. Symptoms of myocarditis include positional chest pain, inability to lie down flat, palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, swelling of legs and abdomen due to retention of fluid, and fever. Diagnosis is generally made by certain blood investigations like troponin, creatinine kinase, and investigation, which might include ECG, 2D echocardiogram, and chest X-ray. A biopsy of a cardiac muscle might also be advised if needed. Treatment depends upon the underlying cause of myocarditis, which may include antibiotics, fluid management, decongestive therapy, diuretics, and, in some cases, a heart transplant is also advised.
