Myasthenia gravis can be described as an autoimmune condition that can lead to weakness of skeletal muscles. There are many types of myasthenia gravis, such as neonatal myasthenia, autoimmune myasthenia, and congenital myasthenia, and subtypes include generalized and ocular. Myasthenia gravis can occur due to an attack caused by the own immune system. There are stages seen in myasthenia gravis such as class I, class II, class III, class IV, class V. The symptoms that can be experienced in case of myasthenia gravis can be fatigue, double vision, muscle weakness, drooping of eyelids, walking difficulty, speaking difficulty, swallowing difficulty, chewing difficulty, and limited facial expressions on face. Myasthenia gravis can be diagnosed with antibody tests, electromyography (EMG), CT scan, and MRI scan. The treatment for myasthenia gravis can be medications, intravenous infusion of immunoglobulins, plasma exchange, intravenous infusion of monoclonal antibodies, or surgical treatment called thymectomy for the removal of the thymus gland.
