Mouth ulcer :
Mouth ulcers are sores that usually develop on the gums, tongue, roof of the mouth, inner lips and inner cheek region. These ulcers are red, white or yellow in colour. Mouth ulcers are of various types, such as aphthous ulcers, erythroplakia, leukoplakia, oral lichen planus, oral thrush and mouth cancer. The symptoms of mouth ulcers include pain that worsens while eating spicy, salty or sour foods, increased soreness while brushing the teeth and swelling around the ulcers. The factors responsible for causing mouth ulcers are accidentally biting the cheek or tongue, minor tissue injury from dental work, wearing braces or retainers, using harsh or abrasive toothpaste, allergic reaction to some bacteria, hormonal changes during periods, lack of sleep and stress. Mouth ulcers also occur due to vitamin deficiencies, viral, bacterial or fungal infections, reactive arthritis, celiac disease, Crohn's disease, Behcet's disease and lupus.
