Menorrhagia :
Menorrhagia is described as heavy menstrual bleeding during menstruation that lasts longer than seven days. Women with menorrhagia need to wear multiple pads at a time to prevent leaking blood, change pads in the middle of the night, have a necessity to change the pad or tampon every hour or several hours back to back and pass blood clots the size of a quarter or larger several times per day. As there is severe blood loss, menorrhagia is also related to other significant signs such as severe period cramps or abdominal pain, fatigue and shortness of breath. The factors contributing to this condition include hormonal imbalance of hormones progesterone and estrogen, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), anovulation and thyroid disease. The other factors that cause menorrhagia include infections like trichomoniasis, chlamydia and gonorrhea, growth of fibroids, polyps and adenomyosis, pregnancy complications and certain medications. The treatment methods to manage menorrhagia involves medical options and surgeries, depending on the underlying cause.
