Measles :
Measles is a viral disease that is highly contagious and may cause serious life threatening complications. The symptoms induced by measles are high fever, red or bloodshot eyes, runny nose, barky cough, tiredness, rash, digestive symptoms like stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting, sore throat, Koplik's spots (red spots with white centers in the mouth), headache and muscle pain. The virus that is responsible for causing measles is Morbillivirus, which is an airborne virus and spreads by being around an infected person, touching a contaminated surface, and touching the back of the mouth, nose or eyes and vertical transmission while breastfeeding or delivery, from a pregnant woman to the baby. Currently, there is no specific cure for measles and the treatment plan involves dealing with the symptoms and preventing complications. The supportive care to be taken when attacked by the measles virus includes taking plenty of rest and drinking adequate amounts of water. Getting measles vaccination in the early stages of life is the best way to prevent this disease.
