Mastectomy :

Mastectomy is a surgical procedure in which a part or the entire breast is removed surgically. It is a major surgical procedure done under general anesthesia by a surgical oncologist or a general surgeon often to treat and prevent the spread of breast cancer. Mastectomy can vary depending upon the breast tissue removed based on the type and extent of cancer that includes total mastectomy where the entire breast is removed, partial mastectomy, radical mastectomy,double mastectomy (both the breasts removed) and nipple sparing mastectomy etc. It is important to discuss the outcome of the surgery and its complications and also provide counselling regarding the reconstruction options after the surgery.
