Mastectomy :
Mastectomy is a surgical treatment for breast cancer. The procedure involves removing the affected breasts from the body. In some cases, a partial removal of the breast can be performed, in which only the tumour is removed. However, in other cases, the affected breast must be removed completely to prevent the cancer from spreading. The type of mastectomy performed depends on the stage of the cancer and the location of the tumour, among other factors.
The surgery takes a few hours and may be immediately followed by a reconstructive surgery. In many cases, the surgery is combined with other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. Most patients must stay in the hospital for a day after the surgery.
