Leprosy :
Leprosy is a serious infection caused by a bacteria. The bacteria damage the nerves and muscles of the body, including the respiratory tract and eyes. An individual affected by leprosy experiences severe changes in the skin and develops permanent disabilities. Leprosy can be treated and it is not very contagious.
The diagnosis of leprosy begins with a physical exam and also involves a skin or nerve biopsy. A doctor may also order nerve tests, blood tests and muscle tests to confirm the diagnosis. The treatment of leprosy usually involves various antibiotic medicines. The doctor will ask the patient to continue taking the medicines for up to 12 months. An affected individual is not contagious during the treatment period. An individual can recover from the infection, but the nerve and muscle damage may not be reversible. A doctor may recommend surgery to repair nerve damage or remove any nodules from the body.Found 29 Doctors for Leprosy Treatment in Vijayawada
