Hysteroscopy :
Hysteroscopy is an operative procedure and an investigation performed to understand the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. Hysteroscopy is done by inserting a hysteroscope, a thin, lighted tube, into the vagina to visualize the inside of the cervix and uterus and then identify and remove any polyps or fibroids present in the uterus. This procedure is indicated to locate an intrauterine device (IUD), to detect a uterine septum, a malformation, diagnose and remove placental tissue after birth, find out the cause of fertility problems or repeated miscarriages, and identify and remove uterine adhesions, as in Asherman's syndrome. The presenting complaints for which a person is advised to undergo a hysteroscopy include bleeding after menopause, irregular spotting between periods, and heavy menstrual bleeding. Hysteroscopy is contraindicated if the patient has any pelvic infection or during pregnancy. After the procedure, it is important for the patient to seek medical care if they experience fever, heavy vaginal bleeding and severe abdominal pain.
