High cholesterol :
High cholesterol is the layman term for the medical condition called hyperlipidemia/ hypercholesterolemia. It is the indication of elevated fat levels in the body and increased potential of causing coronary atherosclerotic changes. Lipid profile is a diagnostic laboratory blood test performed to evaluate the levels of different components of cholesterol, including total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides. Elevation in any the component or unfavorable/poor LDL to HDL ratio is the indication of this condition. Statins are the choice of drugs for medication management of the hyperlipidemia. It can also elevate hypertension and obesity conditions in an individual. Dietary modification, daily physical activity and better stress coping mechanisms can all play significant role in management of the high cholesterol.
