Heart Attack :

Heart attack also known as myocardial infarction(MI) is a medical emergency in which the blood flow to the heart is blocked or suddenly reduced, causing infarction to the heart muscle and causes extreme chest pain and discomfort which may radiate to the left arm or shoulder. It can occur due to various risk factors like coronary artery disease (CAD), blood clots, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking(one opf the major risk factors),alcohol, diabetes, obesity, family history, stress, sedentary lifestyle, high carbohydrate diet and processed foot for long term etc.,

Signs and symptoms include chest pain or discomfort (tightness, pressure or heaviness) which might radiate as pain or discomfort in arms, back, neck, jaw, diaphragm , shortness of breath, cold sweats, lightheadedness or dizziness, rapid or irregular heartbeat etc.Diagnosis is made by above symptoms and EEG ,blood tests (troponin levels), echocardiogram and treated immediately via medications ie,.thrombolytics (clot-busters), antiplatelet agents (aspirin, clopidogrel), anticoagulants (heparin, warfarin), beta blockers, ACE inhibitors and procedures like angioplasty,stenting and Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) if necessary.
