Gastrectomy :

Gastrectomy is a surgical procedure to excise a part or all of the stomach. It is called Partial gastrectomy when only part of the stomach is excised. It is called total gastrectomy when the whole stomach is removed. Sleeve gastrectomy involves removal of left side of the stomach. Gastrectomy is performed in conditions such as gastro intestinal Bleeding, Inflammation, benign tumors , noncancerous, tumors, perforations in the stomach wall, polyps or growths inside stomach, stomach cancer, severe peptic or duodenal ulcers, oesophageal cancer, obesity, non cancerous tumors.

Techniques of gastrectomy include open gastrectomy and keyhole or laparoscopic gastrectomy. Complications of this procedure include bleeding, infection, anemia , osteoporosis, acid reflux, diarrhea, an infection of the incision wound, gastric dumping syndrome, internal bleeding leaking from the stomach at the operation site, nausea, vomiting, stomach acid leaking into your esophagus, scarring, narrowing, constriction, vitamin deficiency, weight loss, an infection in the chest, bleeding, difficulty breathing, pneumonia, damage to adjacent structures.
