Endoscopic ultrasound is a diagnostic test in which both endoscopy and ultrasound are conducted. Endoscopic ultrasound is performed by a gastroenterologist to examine the inside of the digestive tract. This procedure is indicated to evaluate for presenting such as chest pain, abdominal pain, blood in stool, lumps, growths or lesions seen on previous scans like MRI and CT, digestive tract problems like colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and anal fissures, gallbladder diseases like gallstones and cholecystitis, spread of cancer, lung complains like lung cancer, pancreatic diseases including pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, and swallowing disorders like barrett's esophagus. There are certain things to be followed before performing endoscopic ultrasound such as adjusting the dosage of medications if taking any such as blood thinners or insulin, restricting eating anything or drinking and using a bowel prep to clean out the bowels.
