Brain Aneurysm :
A brain aneurysm is a condition in which one of the blood vessels in the brain develops a bulge. An aneurysm usually develops in the thinnest part of a blood vessel in the brain. A brain aneurysm can cause symptoms if it presses against the nerves or tissues in the brain. Some possible symptoms include headache, facial numbness, vision changes and seizures. If the aneurysm ruptures (bursts), it can cause confusion, severe headache, double vision, stiff neck and loss of consciousness.
Some of the risk factors of a brain aneurysm include smoking, family history, head injuries and conditions like high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. A neurologist can diagnose a brain aneurysm with tests like cerebral angiogram, MRI scan and lumbar puncture. The condition can be treated with endovascular coiling, surgical clipping or microvascular clipping.
