G S Ramani completed her primary medical education from SVS Medical College and residency in ophthalmology from Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Subsequently, she did her two-year fellowship training in glaucoma and cataract from VST Centre for Glaucoma at LVPEI, Hyderabad. Later she joined LVPEI’s Kode Venkatadri Choudhary Campus in Vijayawada as a consultant before joining the reputed Singapore Eye Research Institute and Singapore National Eye Centre as a research associate; under the guidance of Prof Ecosse Lamourex, a pioneer in community and comprehensive ophthalmology.
Dr Ramani is actively involved in teaching and has trained several residents in glaucoma diagnosis and management including surgical procedures. Her keen interest in research has resulted in several publications in peer-reviewed reputed medical journals. She has presented at several national and international meetings. In 2018, she won ‘Best Video’ award at World Glaucoma Congress at Helsinki, Finland and was also awarded a travel grant for WGC 2018 from its parent body World Glaucoma Congress. Her areas of interest are primary and secondary glaucoma and their impact on the quality of life of the patient.
