Pelvic Inflammatory Disease :
Pelvic inflammatory disease is the infection or inflammation of the female reproductive organs such as the uterus,vagina,ovaries, cervix and fallopian tubules.Pelvic inflammatory diseases are commonly caused due to Sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia,gonorrhea etc and hence PID is more prevalent in women who are sexually active. While some of the less common causes include ruptured appendex,gastroenteritis,and certain surgical procedures such as dilation curettage.Individuals with Pelvic inflammatory disease may be asymptomatic, however for the women who do have symptoms may include pain in the lower abdomen,fever,pain during intercourse,irregular bleeding,abnormal vaginal discharge, and fatigue. Tests to determine these diseases include pelvic exam, urine tests ,cervical culture and endometrial biopsy. You may practice certain precautionary measures to prevent pelvic inflammatory disease which may include practising safe sex,avoiding douching,maintaining toilet hygiene and frequent gynecological checkups.
