Slip Disc :

A Slip Disc also called as herniated disc is when one of your inter-vertebral disc protrudes outside. A slip disc is usually caused by excessive strain or trauma to the spine. It can occur in any part of the spine but often seen in the lower back. Individuals with a slip disc experience symptoms such as pain, Numbness, tingling and weakness in the affected area, pain radiating to hands and legs, pain worsening at nights and aggravating on siting and standing. Obesity,smoking sedentary lifestyle, physically demanding occupations such as pulling, pushing etc, frequent driving, and genetics, are some of the risk factors of a slip disc.

Treatment of slip disc may range from conservative treatments to surgery. However majority of the people respond well to the conservative approaches unless the condition is chronic or severe. It is not possible to prevent a slip disc, but you can always follow certain measures to prevent it such as be careful while lifting heavy weight, use proper and safe lifting techniques,maintain a healthy weight, being physically active, and avoid siting for long hours.
