Presbyopia :
Presbyopia is a progressive eye condition in which the individual loses the ability to focus or see nearby objects clearly. Presbyopia is a normal part of aging affecting adults above 40 years of age. It typically occurs due to decreased elasticity and increased hardness in the lens and decreased strength in the ciliary muscle associated with ageing. Individual with this condition notice symptoms such as difficulty in reading or seeing objects at a closer distance, difficulty reading small prints, eye strain and head ache after reading or doing closeup work.
Refractive errors such as hyperopia and myopia may also exist simultaneous along with presbyopia. This condition is often diagnosed with basic eye and refractive assessment. Although being associated with ageing, it may also affect individuals younger than 40 and this is called as premature presbyopia. Individuals with anemia, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, eye trauma, vascular insufficiency are more vulnerable to experience premature presbyopia.
