Myopathy :
Myopathy is a generalized medical term for collective diseases affecting muscles of skeletal origin. There are different types of myopathy which are classified either under inherited/hereditary or acquired myopathy. The clinical presentation of myopathy involves generalized/affected muscle group weakness, cramps, stiffness and fatigue with limited ability to perform daily activities, and shortness of breath on exertion. In congenital myopathy, the affected children show less physical stamina as compared to their regular age group. These symptoms should not be neglected and be readily evaluated by rheumatologist or a neurologist. Some of the common diagnostic tests conducted are blood tests including muscle enzyme markers, electrolyte levels, CRP, ANA, RF and endocrine markers like TSH; electromyography, MRI of muscle groups and muscle biopsy. These conditions are medically managed by autoimmune suppressants like methotrexate.
