Hepatitis C :
Hepatitis C is one of the viral hepatitis infections caused by HCV(Hepatitis C virus) that affects the liver. It can contract via blood to blood transmission by sharing needles, syringes, unsterile medical equipment, blood transfusions that are unscreened, from an infected mother to child during childbirth or pregnancy, sexual transmission(rare). The signs and symptoms include yellowish discoloration of skin, eyes(Jaundice), dark coloured urine, abdominal pain and discomfort, nausea(vomiting sensation), muscle pain, joints pain , fatigue, loss of appetite, fever etc. Although around 20% of the infected cases resolve spontaneously others might develop chronic infection (lasts for long duration) and leads to complications like cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, portal hypertension etc. Hence it is important to identify and treat the disease at the early stages via antiviral drugs, life style modifications and other supportive care.
