Blood in Vomit :
Blood in vomit or hematemesis is the formation of dark or bright red colored vomit as opposed to tiny dots that can be seen sometimes. It is important to get an accurate diagnosis to know the cause of vomiting of blood. The upper gastro intestinal tract is said to have been made of the oesophagus which is a tube that connects stomach and mouth, the stomach itself and the first part of small intestine called duodenum.
Blood in vomit generally is as a result of bleeding in the upper Gastrointestinal tract. One common reason that can result in bleeding is the formation of ulcers. These are called peptic ulcers. Ulcers are sensitive and hence get ruptured easily. This results in Hematemesis. Another reason could be Acute inflammation of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract which is usually due to alcohol abuse. The lining of esophagus and stomach gets inflamed and starts bleeding.
Even in cirrhosis or scarring of liver, there can be portal hypertension. This hypertension can enlarge blood vessels. The enlarged blood vessels are susceptible to rupture
