Neuro Ophthalmologist :
A neuro ophthalmologist is an eye specialist who has additional training in neurology. The additional education and training allow these specialists to diagnose and treat vision problems caused by the nervous system. Neuro ophthalmologists can determine whether a patient is suffering because of the brain, the optic nerve or the muscles that control the eyes. The qualifications of these specialists include MBBS and MS in Ophthalmology, followed by a fellowship in neuro opthalmology.
Neuro ophthalmologists can treat problems such as crossed eyes, optic neuritis, cranial nerve palsies, visual field defects and papilledema. They can also provide relief from migraines, visual disturbances, amblyopia and myasthenia gravis. It is important to consult a neuro ophthalmologist for symptoms such as unusual eye movements, headaches, double vision, unequal pupil size and sudden loss of vision.
