Tongue Cancer :
Tongue cancer is the abnormal growth of cancer cells in the squamous cells on the surface of the tongue, leading to tumors or lesions on the tongue characterised initially by a sore or a non healing ulcer.
Individuals diagnosed with tongue cancer experience symptoms such as red or white patch on the tongue, numbness of the tongue, sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, restricted jaw movement, tender lymph nodes, and swelling of the jaw. The exact cause of the tongue cancer is idiopathic, while certain factors like individuals with compromised immune system, older age, HPV, male population, smoking and alcohol abuse may contribute to the development of the cancer. However among the above mentioned factors smoking acts as a single and largest cause for tongue cancer.
