Thyroid Cancer :
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that is responsible for releasing thyroid hormones. The hormones that it releases control the metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. When unusual cells rapidly grow on the thyroid, it is said that the individual has thyroid cancer.
The symptoms of thyroid cancer include difficulty in swallowing, changes in the voice and swelling in the lymph nodes. Moreover, thyroid cancer can result in the development of a lump in the neck. An ENT specialist may feel for the lump and then order tests like blood tests, radioiodine scan and biopsy to provide a diagnosis. The treatment of thyroid cancer usually involves surgery. However, other treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy may also be required. Thyroid cancer is one of the most curable forms of cancer.
