Seizures :
Seizures are caused due to increased load of electrical signals in the brain. They clinically manifest as a bouts of loss of consciousness, zoning out involuntarily, and uncontrollable movements/convulsions. They can be included either under generalized seizures like absence and clonic type of seizures or focal seizures. The duration, intensity, clinical presentation of symptoms are highly variable from an individual to an individual. Seizures can be indicative of underlying diseases like aneurysms, brain tumors, Alzheimer's disease or eclampsia. It can also affect bowel and urinary tracts, mood and behavioral traits. Status epilepticus is condition in which the seizures occurs for 5 minutes or more/overlapping of 2 consecutive seizures, which is a fatal condition if not addressed promptly. A qualified neurologist investigates with several diagnostic aids including spinal tab/lumbar puncture. Treatment can be provided with anti-seizure medications, surgical approach or vagus nerve simulation.
