Salivary Gland Tumour :
The salivary glands that are present in the mouth are responsible for making saliva or spit. The mouth has a total of six salivary glands. The saliva that they generate is useful in digestion and upkeep of oral health. When any of the salivary glands begin growing cells at a rapid rate, it is said that the individual has a salivary gland tumour. A salivary gland tumour can appear on any salivary gland in the mouth. In many cases, such tumours are not cancerous. A tumour on a salivary gland can cause symptoms like pain near the gland, difficulty in swallowing, facial numbness and weakness. It can also cause swelling in the jaw, neck, or mouth. The condition is diagnosed with imaging tests and biopsies. Treatment usually involves the surgical removal of the affected gland from the body. If the tumour is cancerous, then additional treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy may be required.
