PUO :
PUO or pyrexia of unknown origin, refers to a fever that lasts for a long time without a known reason. Based on several factors, PUO is divided into various types such as classical PUO disease, HIV - associated PUO disease, immunodeficient, neutropenic PUO disease, or nosocomial PUO disease. The causative factors of PUO are categorized into several types, such as neoplastic, non- infectious inflammatory diseases, infective, and miscellaneous reasons. The presenting complaints of PUO include fever, night sweats, and weight loss accompanied by pain in joints, chest, or abdomen. The risk factors associated with PUO include underlying infections such as HIV & inflammatory disease, exposure to occupational or radiation exposure, drug- induced, alcohol consumption, low socioeconomic levels, unvaccinated individuals, family history of prior malignancies, and travelling to an endemic place.
