Paralysis :
Paralysis is a condition in which an individual becomes unable to move some parts of their body. This disability occurs when the nerves do not send signals to certain parts of the body. Paralysis can occur in specific parts of the body or the entire body. It can be temporary or permanent. Besides causing an inability to move the affected parts of the body, paralysis can also cause a loss of sensation. Paralysis can be caused by strokes, injuries in the spinal cord, autoimmune conditions, neurological diseases and brain injuries. It can also develop due to a birth defect. The condition can be diagnosed with a combination of tests like EMG, imaging tests, myelogram and spinal tap. The treatment for paralysis usually involves various types of therapy and the use of unique equipment such as voice-activated equipment, wheelchairs, and prosthetics.
