Neuroma :
A neuroma is a non-cancerous growth which can form in the nerve tissue. There are various types of neuroma, like Morton's neuroma, acoustic neuroma, and traumatic neuroma. The neuroma will be caused due to many reasons, such as foot conditions, such as flat foot, rheumatoid arthritis or gout, injuries to nerves, stress or pressure on nerves. The symptoms observed in a neuroma include a tingling sensation, a burning sensation, pain, numbness, stabbing pain, sharp pain, or dull pain. These symptoms are triggered by tight shoes, swelling or a lump, or any other activity. The neuroma will be detected through physical examination, ultrasound scan, X-ray, and electromyography. The treatment advised for neuroma will be made with medication to relieve pain, rest, ice application, orthotic devices, physiotherapy, shoe pads, and steroid injections. Surgical treatment will be advised in case the above conservative treatments fail. Surgical treatment involves the removal of the neuroma or the decompression of nerves.
