Laminectomy :
Laminectomy is a surgical treatment in cases of severe back pain or neck pain that hinders normal daily activities. Laminectomy is the right option, as a neurosurgeon can perform the surgical removal of the part or complete vertebral bone called the lamina. This surgical procedure is done to relieve pressure on the nerves, which can lead to pain, numbness in the arms, back, neck, and legs. Laminectomy will also be indicated in case of bone fracture, herniated disk, arthritis, bone spurs, degenerative conditions, spinal stenosis, spinal tumors, and abscesses. Before doing the surgery, there will be a few diagnostic tests to be done, which include an MRI scan, an X-ray, and a myelogram. The risks associated with a laminectomy are infection, blood clots in the legs, and bleeding. There are four main types of laminectomy procedures based on the position, such as cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral.
