Kidney pain :
Kidney pain or renal pain refers to the pain in flank region(lower back to the sides) where the kidneys are located. It can occur due to various underlying conditions like renal calculi (kidney stones), ureteric calculi, hydronephrosis, pyelonephritis, acute kidney injury, PCKD, abscess, tumors, renal vein thrombosis etc. The kidney pain can also be associated with other symptoms like fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, burning micturition, pain during urination, blood in urine, urgency to urinate and pain radiating to groin, thighs or abdomen. Diagnosis is made by medical history, physical examination, urine examination with culture and sensitivity, ultrasound and or CT scan. Management is by medications for pain management, antibiotics, surgical removal of stones or tumors if present and other supportive care.
