Iritis :
Iritis is a clinical condition of the eye characterized by inflammation and swelling of a colored ring around the pupil of the eye known as the iris. Iritis is also known as anterior uveitis. It develops suddenly in one eye or both eyes. The signs of iritis are redness of the eye, discomfort and pain in the affected eye, sensitivity to light, and decreased vision. Iritis is caused by injury to the eye, viral infections, genetic predisposition, and certain medications like antibiotics and antivirals. Iritis also develops due to medical conditions like Behcet's disease, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, inflammatory bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis. It is treated by prescribing eye drops and treating the underlying conditions. The possible risks if not treated are cataracts, irregular pupils, glaucoma, calcium deposits on the cornea, and swelling within the retina.
