Hysterectomy :
Hysterectomy refers to a procedure that involves the removal of the uterus and attached cervix. It is done to treat conditions like uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse, cervical cancer, cancer of the ovaries and uterus, endometriosis, vaginal bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, adenomyosis, dysmenorrhea, and uterine rupture. Types of hysterectomies include total hysterectomy, where the entire uterus and cervix are removed. Partial hysterectomy, where only the uterus is removed, and radical hysterectomy, where the uterus, cervix, along with upper part of the vagina is removed. Side effects can be hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia, excessive bleeding, injury to organs such as ureters, bladder, blood vessels, intestines and nerves, blood clots to legs, scar tissue formation, hernia, pain, reactions to anesthesia, and infection.
