High Risk pregnancy :
High risk pregnancy is a condition where the baby, mother, or both are at high risk of complications within the womb, during pregnancy, or immediately after delivery. The chances for high risk pregnancy are more in the following conditions: diabetes mellitus, uncontrolled high blood pressure, renal disease, autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and SLE, polycystic ovarian syndrome, Rh incompatibility, placenta previa, thyroid disease, multiple gestations (pregnancy with twins, triplets or more), abruptio placenta, fetal malformations and preterm labor. The significant signs of high-risk pregnancy include intermittent painless bright red bleeding after the 20th week, dehydration, loss of weight, loss of skin elasticity, moderate to severe bleeding, which is usually dark, dry mouth and thirst, and severe pain or tenderness of the abdomen. To prevent the risk of a high risk pregnancies, it is important to take folic acid supplements, maintain a healthy weight and eat a safe diet.
