FESS :
FESS or Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that aims at opening the sinuses. FESS is indicated to deal with various types of sinus problems and is performed using a nasal endoscope. It also uses advanced instruments to remove the blockages in the sinuses without making any incisions around the nose. The conditions that are treated by FESS include chronic sinus inflammation or sinus infections that do not improve with medical treatments, other sinus-related issues and nasal polyps to restore ventilation and proper drainage within the sinuses. FESS is the best alternative to traditional sinus surgery, as there is less scarring and reduced recovery times. The complications that may occur due to FESS include losing the sense of smell, having double vision or loss of vision in one eye after the surgery, unusually heavy bleeding, tearing eyes, and leakage of cerebrospinal fluid.
