Failure to Thrive :
Children diagnosed with failure to thrive typically indicate undesirable physical growth or insufficient weight gain in respect to the age and standard medical growth charts. Failure to thrive is diagnosed by the physician during regular visits, when the parents or care takers express concerns regarding the growth of their children.
The cause of this condition can be broadly divided into inadequate caloric intake, malabsorption or caloric retention defect, and increased metabolic demands. Treatment mainly depends on the cause of the delayed growth and development , if the condition is due to nutritional factors they can be resolved by educating the parents or care takers about healthy and balanced diet , on the hand if psychological factors are included treatment focuses on child and parent counselling.
