ERCP :
ERCP defined as Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate and treat conditions of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. This technique includes the combination of endoscopy and Fluoroscopy to treat various conditions including obstructive jaundice, tumors, infections, strictures, blockages or narrowing of the pancreatic ducts, suspected injury to bile duct and others.
ERCP is primarily performed by highly skilled and extensively trained gastroenterologists. An ERCP is done as an out patient procedure under sedation. Although this is a simple and a safe procedure, one of the feared and frequent complications is post ERCP pancreatitis.
