Endometrial Polyp :
Endometrial polyps or uterine polyps are overgrowths of the inner lining of the uterus. They are attached to the inner wall of the uterus via thin stems or large foundations of tissues. Polyps may be as small as seeds or as large as golf balls. Such overgrowths tend to be noncancerous. However, they can cause fertility and menstruation problems. The risk of uterine polyps increases with age. Women in their 40s and 50s are most commonly affected by these overgrown tissues. High blood pressure and obesity also increase the risk of polyps. The condition causes heavy bleeding during menses, irregularity in periods, and bleeding between periods. Furthermore, the presence of these overgrowths can cause bleeding after menopause. Doctors usually prescribe medications to improve hormonal balance and relieve the symptoms. A uterine polypectomy can be performed for long-term relief.
