Dysmenorrhea :
Dysmenorrhea is described as having painful menstrual periods or menstrual cramps. Dysmenorrhea usually starts a day before the menstrual period or on the first day and gets better slowly after the next two or three days. Dysmenorrhea is classified into two types: primary and secondary. Primary dysmenorrhea is when the menstrual cramps occur without any medical condition, and secondary dysmenorrhea is when the menstrual cramps occur due to a problem related to any infection or reproductive organs. The factors responsible for causing secondary dysmenorrhea include fibroids, adenomyosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, some congenital conditions affecting the fallopian tubes or ovaries, and cervical stenosis. The symptoms of dysmenorrhea are aching pain in the lower back, hips, and inner thighs, a feeling of pressure in the abdomen, throbbing pain in the abdomen, and other signs like nausea, dizziness, and headaches. To manage dysmenorrhea, there are various treatment options like taking pain relievers, getting extra rest, avoiding foods that contain caffeine, and using a heating pad on the abdomen or lower back.
