Dyslexia :
Dyslexia is a learning disorder which is characterized by difficulties with word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities that effects reading and writing. It's a neurological condition that often affects the children and identified in school going age kids. Specific cause for dyslexia is unknown but it can run in families(genetic factors) environmental factors like premature birth, low birth weight etc,. Dyslexia can also occur after a brain injury, trauma , dementia and other pathological conditions known as acquired dementia.
Children with dyslexia often present with difficulty reading, spelling, slow reading speed and accuracy, reversing of letters and numbers, confusing similar words, avoiding reading and writing tasks in school. Dyslexia can be associated with other learning disorders like dysgraphia, ADHD, auditory processing disorder, developmental coordination disorder etc,. Management is by multisensory instruction ie,. Orton-Gillingham approach, phonics based reading programs, assistive technology, compensatory strategies like audio books, visual aids and self-esteem support
