Coronary Artery Disease CAD :
Coronary artery disease is described as a blockage in the coronary arteries due to plaque build up in the coronary arteries, which supply oxygen rich blood to the heart. This coronary artery disease further complicates to stable angina which causes shortness of breath during light physical activity and temporary chest pain during physical activity or emotional distress. CAD is categorized into various types such as acute coronary syndrome and stable ischemic heart disease. The primary cause of CAD is atherosclerosis. The risk factors associated with CAD are autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, not exercising regularly, high blood pressure, improper sleep, high LDL, low HDL, anemia, diabetes, sleep disorders like sleep apnea, chronic kidney disease, metabolic syndrome, use of hormonal birth control and endometriosis. The management of coronary artery disease involves medications to treat the risk factors and symptoms, surgeries like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and lifestyle changes.
