Contraceptive pills :

Contraceptive pills are oral medications used to prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation and thickening of the cervical mucus. Contraceptive pills are used to prevent pregnancy, regulate menstrual cycles, treat acne, hirsutism, or alopecia, reduce menstrual cramps and bleeding from uterine fibroids and other causes. Treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), reduced risk for ovarian cancer and the lining of the uterus, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts and non cancerous breast disease, treatment pf PMS, etc. It might also cause nausea and vomiting, breast tenderness, fatigue, mood changes, bloating, increased blood pressure, weight gain or loss etc. Rare side effects include blood clots in the legs called DVT (deep vein thrombosis ), heart attack, stroke (if the person also smokes) , liver disorders etc.

Oral contraceptive pills can prevent ovulation , change the mucus of the cervix (openeing of the uterus) and uterus thus preventing the sperm from fertilizing the ovary. Using of OCP's include selection of appropriate contraceptive pill type (combined or progestin-only), regular follow-up appointments, monitoring of blood pressure and breast health, adjustment of dosage or type as needed and education on proper use and potential side effects is necessary.
