Cervical Disc Herniation :
The bones that make up the neck are called cervical bones, and these bones are supported by spongy discs. These cervical discs have a soft inner core with a tough outer shell. When the outer shell breaks and the inner material leaks out, it is said that the individual has suffered a cervical disc herniation.
Cervical disc herniation is a serious condition that can cause symptoms like pain in the fingers, hands, neck and arms. If the damaged disc results in extra pressure on a nerve, then the individual may experience numbness and weakness in the arms and hands. The condition can develop as a result of wear and tear that occurs naturally over time. For this reason, it is more common in older adults and senior citizens. However, cervical disc herniation can also occur due to trauma. In many cases, an underlying cause is not found. The treatment of this condition involves the use of a neck brace.
