Celiac Disease :
Gluten is a protein found in grains like rye and wheat. Celiac disease is an autoimmune response to gluten. When someone affected by this disease ingests gluten, their immune system produces antibodies against it in the small intestine. This autoimmune response damages the inner lining of the small intestine. Such damage makes it challenging for the intestine to absorb nutrients. In this way, celiac disease often leads to nutritional deficiencies. The symptoms of this disease can vary, so it can be difficult to diagnose. Some gastrointestinal symptoms like bloating, constipation, and diarrhea may occur. It can also cause symptoms of malnutrition and anaemia. Doctors diagnose this disease by looking for gluten antibodies in the blood. If the antibodies are present, they confirm the diagnosis by performing a biopsy of tissues from the small intestine. The solution to celiac disease is to remove gluten from the diet.
